About LavaNet Frame Relay - Hawaii's best!
Frame relay is a high speed, high performance data service that is used for WANs ("wide area networks" - private data pipes connecting branch offices) and for Internet connectivity. It offers a great deal of design flexibility and security control for the network administrator.
LavaNet Frame Relay is a professional grade connection. Its higher monthly costs and hardware costs make sense if your network calls for some or all of the features listed below:
Symmetric speed (same speed up and down), and massive expandability.
Frame relay comes in different speed levels, either as a fractional or full "T1" (1544 Mbps), incrementally on up to full T3 (45 Mbps!), dwarfing the maximum capacity of a DSL or cable Internet line many times over.LavaNet's network is maintained with great care so that ample bandwidth is available for your data traffic, both arriving to and leaving our network. LavaNet manages two T3's of national backbone bandwidth to and from the Internet. . This is delivered using three backbone providers, for added fail-safety on our Internet connectivty. Data speeds leaving our network are generally excellent. LavaNet's responsible growth policy means that as we add more high speed connections, we also increase our bandwidth and network capability, so with LavaNet, the requirements of your line are a major consideration in the growth of our network.
Frame relay comes with service guarantees from the phone company called "CIR" (committed information rate). CIR is a guarantee from the phone company that your connection between you and your ISP will not dip below a certain speed. For instance, 50% CIR on a 256Kbps frame relay line means the connection between you and your ISP will not be below 128Kbps. This should not be confused with a guarantee of data rates over the public Internet.
LavaNet is among a handful of ISPs able to handle demanding CIR needs. By special arrangement, you can purchase up to a 100% CIR connection, and LavaNet will match the CIR through our network (please contact us for pricing. Note that neither the "CIR". nor any ISP can guarantee speeds to and from the public Internet, only between static routed points like your site and your ISP. Once traffic hits the public Internet, a host of factors mostly outside the control of the ISP or the phone company take over.
Frame relay has a wide "footprint". Its availability range is much greater than either DSL or cable Internet, and so frame relay can usually be used in cases where neither of these connection methods are available. LavaNet serves frame relay customers statewide!
Frame relay is designed to be used for building complex networks.
These can include: separate voice and data traffic over the same frame relay line, managed WANs with one main Internet feed for many branch offices, special bridging to allow private inter-branch communications, and more. LavaNet's networking department offers senior system level consulting for network design. LavaNet Frame Relay Lite is ideally suited for businesses that do not have complex routing needs (bridging, VPN), and moderate bandwidth needs.
Network planners can use LavaNet Frame Relay Lite to save money and may also find that for about the same overall price, the speed of your frame relay line can be increased to get more speed for your LAN or servers because the LavaNet base rate is fixed no matter what the speed of the line. (The phone company does charge additional fees for the local loop.)

Have your own netblock? Bring it to LavaNet! LavaNet standard Frame Relay, Frame Relay Lite and DSL services are also suitable for use by qualified customers preferring to use their own assigned IP address space, at the discretion of our systems staff.
Need more than a full T1 (1544 Kbps)? Fractional or full T3? Please inquire! LavaNet offers multi-megabit Internet connections direct from your site via either a point-to-point (through any telco) or frame relay (Hawaii Telecom only) local loop. Bridged DSL and/or frame relay - special provisioning for WANs, basic VPN, Voice over IP and more. No extra monthly fees! For customers with branch offices, bridging offers privacy and powerful options. Leverage the power of LavaNet's telco-grade routers and expert provisioning to build networks that handle traffic intelligently and cost-effectively.
Bridging places all your LavaNet connections in the same "subnet" so that traffic destined from one site to another will be directed by our Cisco routers without ever touching the public Internet. Some ISPs charge twice (or more!) as much as LavaNet, without nearly our level of expertise in provisioning this service.
LavaNet offers bridging for no extra monthly fee over our open rates for DSL ($54.17/mo) or LavaNet Frame Relay (Frame Relay Lite pricing not applicable). One-time, $100 additional setup fee for the first location, and add all remaining locations at our normal setup fee price. One year contracts required.
LavaNet short term and event connectivity
LavaNet is the "go-to" ISP in Hawaii for events and short term high speed access.
Short term connectivity rates are, in general: one day to a full month is billed at our full setup fee plus one full month's base rate. Time over one month can be prorated on a daily basis.

Note: If your installation site is a hotel or other third party location, the approval and cooperation of the third party is also needed. This can add to the time frame, as can premise wiring conditions. For hotel installations, the frame relay line is usually brought in to the main "demarcation point" (their phone closet, basically).
